Tattoo aftercare guide - How to look after your new tattoo

I’m going through the tattoo aftercare and how I like to advise it after the sessions.

I provide an aftercare pack to my clients, which contains YAYO Prime Tattoo Butter 15ml, antibacterial soap, and a bandage for the first few days.

Here is a link to the best tattoo aftercare I know:

Tattoo aftercare starts as soon as your new tattoo is done.

After the session, I like to wrap the tattoo in an absorbent bandage which is great as it absorbs all the blood, plasma, excess ink coming out, also the skin breathes under it while cling film or medical-grade adhesive “second skin” keeps the liquid over the freshly tattooed skin.

If you would like to pick up some extra bandage, I leave a link here:

So, it’s all clean, we took our pictures, got it wrapped in. Now, it’s down to you!

The first 2 days are critical and need the most care.

When you get home, it's best to do nothing, but before bed, you can change the wrapping,

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with the antibacterial soap,

  2. Under the shower, wash it gently with the same soap provided (you can use a small amount of soap on a kitchen roll and warm water to wash it if you're not fancying a shower or you don’t have access to it)

  3. Tap dry it with a clean kitchen roll (as it’s the cleanest you can use)

  4. Leave it in the air for a few minutes,

  5. With clean hands, put a thin layer of the YAYO aftercare provided and

  6. Wrap it back with a fresh bandage.

Sleep with the bandage on and repeat the steps in the morning.

I advise keeping the tattoo covered for at least 2 days and nights. Depending on the activity, change the cover 1-2 times a day.

If the tattoo sticks to the bandage, soak it with warm water and gently peel it off.

Important notes!

Shower is fine, but a bath is bad! Don’t soak the fresh tattoo in water. There's an unnecessary risk of infection, so no baths or swimming for two weeks!

Also, avoid direct sun and later on, once your tattoo has healed, make sure you're using high factor sunscreen over your tattoo if you're out in the sun.

Keep it clean all the time!

Please take care of yourself and your new tattoo in the following few days. Good food, hydration, and rest will help to get the best healing.

Use common sense and think about how you would behave if you had a fall and a big area of your skin would be bruised, scraped.

Also, I feel it’s important to note that don’t stress about it too much, just follow the steps and it will be all fine.

If you feel something's not right, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

There are no stupid questions, just send me a text and I’ll get back to you asap.

3rd Day

At this point, your new tattoo doesn’t bleed anymore, but it can be sensitive, so you want to keep an eye on it. Depending on the activity, you may want to get it covered or not.

If working in construction then yes, but if you're only on your sofa or computer the whole day, then you don’t have to cover it at this point.

Air is good.

Use your common sense and think about what's best for the healing, not just for comfort or appearance.

I would suggest using the aftercare 3-4 times a day for the next couple of weeks.

Around 5-6 days

(everyone's different), it starts to peel off. It gets dry and flaky, and it can be itchy at this point. It's important to not pick or rub it.

I like to use moisturizer at this point, this one is really nice:

This period only lasts for a few days and will go away soon.

Some scabs can form too, if they do, don’t panic, it’s part of the healing. You can message me if you're concerned, and I’ll advise accordingly, but usually, we want to keep the scabbed area dry, so don’t put the aftercare on the scabbed area.

In two weeks, you won’t need the aftercare anymore, but as it has all the goodies our skin needs, you can still put it on.

Hope all this information helps and makes sense. Again, just drop me a message if you need any additional advice.

Best wishes

Tibor
